Devastated by the murder of her daughter, a young violinist, Françoise decides to take refuge, alone, in the country house built by her maternal ancestors and inherited from her mother. She doesn’t want to go on living and wanders out into the forest one cold morning in order to freeze to death. However, she’s discovered by a man she knew as a teenager. They can’t help letting the amorous feelings of those times resurface.
Foudroyée par l’assassinat de sa fille unique,violoniste de concert, Françoise quitte Montréal et s’installe, seule et en plein hiver, dans la maison de campagne où ont jadis vécu sa mère et sa grand-mère. Inconsolable, elle finit par renoncer à tout désir de vivre. Au point de s’étendre un matin dans la neige, dans l’espoir d’y mourir de froid. Mais Édouard, un peintre solitaire, la découvre juste à temps et ramène à la vie celle qu’il avait connue et aimée alors qu’ils étaient adolescents.
